CJ Nickolas Set to Compete for Bronze After an Intense Semifinal Showdown at 2024 Paris Olympics

Paris, France – August 9, 2024 – Team USA's CJ Nickolas demonstrated determination in the Men's Taekwondo -80kg division semifinals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. In a challenging match against Tunisia's Firas Katoussi at the Grand Palais, Nickolas fought valiantly, ultimately falling short, but still moving on to the bronze medal match.


The first round was a tense and tactical battle, with both athletes demonstrating impressive defense and strategy. The round ended with a score of 0-0, but Tunisia was awarded the win by superiority.

In the second round, Nickolas initially gained a 2-0 lead thanks to two Gam-jeoms against Katoussi early in the match. However, in a dramatic turn of events, Katoussi landed a body kick in the final seconds to tie the match, and he was awarded the win by superiority once again, securing his place in the final:

  • Gam-jeoms: 2 penalties against Tunisia, giving CJ a 2-0 lead
  • Kick, Body: 2 points for Tunisia with 2 seconds left, tying the match

Despite the loss, CJ Nickolas's journey at the Olympics continues as he advances to the bronze medal match. He remains a strong contender for Team USA, and his focus now shifts to his upcoming bout against the winner of the match between Simone Alessio of Italy and Jasurbek Jaysunov of Uzbekistan.
