USA TAEKWONDO CEO STEVE MCNALLY COMMITS TO 2028 AND BEYOND

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Charlotte, NC – USA Taekwondo (USATKD) is thrilled to announce that CEO Steve McNally has signed a contract to lead the organization through the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, with an option to extend his leadership through the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games. This decision follows months of productive discussions, culminating in an agreement that reflects McNally’s exceptional and strong leadership, and the organization’s confidence in his vision for the future.

McNally’s tenure, which began in 2017 and already marks him as the longest serving leader in the organization's 50 year history, has been filled with remarkable achievements. Under his guidance, USA Taekwondo has won medals at every major competition level, successfully reaffirmed its status as the officially recognized taekwondo National Governing Body in the United States through recertification by the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee, showcased its unwavering commitment to athlete safety by ruthlessly driving abusers out of the organization - creating a safe environment for all - and was recently honored as the #1 National Association in the world by the World Taekwondo International Federation. These accomplishments highlight McNally’s dedication to building a sustainable and globally competitive program, and illustrate incredible progress for the organization in that period.

“We are delighted to have reached this agreement with Steve McNally,” said Carol Lewis, Chair of the USA Taekwondo Board of Directors. “Steve’s time with USATKD has been truly transformative, and his unwavering commitment to excellence and strong moral and ethical leadership has brought our organization to unprecedented heights. We look forward to continuing this incredible journey together.”

McNally expressed his enthusiasm for the road ahead: “I am honored to commit to USA Taekwondo and deeply appreciate the confidence shown in me by the Board of Directors and our taekwondo community of athletes, parents and coaches - so many of whom reached out to me and urged me to continue on in the role. With a strong mandate to lead through LA and beyond I am excited to continue building on our progress and ensuring our athletes, coaches, and referees have the support they need to achieve their dreams. We have come a long way from the organization that was facing extinction in 2017, and together, we will make history at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games - for the right reasons.”

The agreement reaffirms USA Taekwondo’s commitment to sustained excellence, innovation, unimpeachable ethics and global leadership in the sport and wider Olympic movement. As the countdown to Los Angeles 2028 begins, the organization is energized and united under McNally’s experienced leadership.
