Membership Requirements & How to Register for an Event#
STEP 1: Become a USA Taekwondo Coach
Please review the following requirements to become a USA Taekwondo Coach.
Coach Requirements by Event Type:
USATKD State Championship & USATKD Non-National Events
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Must have an active USATKD membership through end of event
- Must have completed the USATKD Coach’s course.
- Must complete the coach course according to the discipline you will be coaching (Kyorugi / Poomsae).
- If you will be coaching both disciplines, Kyorugi and Poomsae, you will need to have BOTH coach courses completed and active through the event
- For those Coaches 18 years of age and over:
- Must complete all requirements above AND the following 2 requirements:
- Must complete the Center for SafeSport Training and it must be current through end of the event
- Must complete an have an approved Background Screening through end of the event
USATKD National Championship Event
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Must have active USATKD membership through end of event
- Must have completed the USATKD Coach’s course.
- Must complete the coach course according to the discipline you will be coaching (Kyorugi / Poomsae)
- If you will be coaching both disciplines, Kyorugi and Poomsae, you will need to have BOTH coach courses completed and active through the event.
- Must have a picture of yourself in your USATKD Membership profile
- For those Coaches 18 years of age and over:
- Must complete all the requirements above AND the following 2 requirements.
- Must have completed the Center of SafeSport training and it must be current through the event
- Must complete and have an approved Background Screening through end of the event.

Follow the on screen prompts to compete the registration process.
PLEASE NOTE: A profile picture is required in the USATKD Membership profile for coaches who plan to coach at the USATKD National Championship Event. If you do not enter a profile picture, your Coach registration for the USATKD National Championship Event will not be 100% complete and will cause delay at the USATKD National Championship Check-In.
STEP 2: Complete a National Center for Safety Initiative (NCSI) Background Screening
The Safety of ALL amateur athletes is a primary goal of the USA Taekwondo organization. The U.S. Center for SafeSport, U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USPOC) and National Governing Body USA Taekwondo are leading in the movement to put an end to emotional, physical, and sexual abuse of ALL amateur athletes.
Choosing where to train and compete is an important decision for athletes. USA Taekwondo provides a safe environment for ALL athletes free of abuse. A ZERO tolerance policy for misconduct and abuse is enforced. There is no safer place to train and compete - USA Taekwondo is the Safest Place to Play.
TO COMPLETE THE REQUIRED BACKGROUND SCREENING:
1. Log into your USA Taekwondo Coach profile via Sport:80.
2. When looking at your USATKD Coach profile HOME Page, Click VIEW PROFILE.
3. In the LEFT navigation, click on the USOPC Background Screening link.
4. In the top RIGHT, Click the +Add USOPC Background Screening and follow the prompts to complete payment for the background screening.
All background screenings are processed by the National Center for Safety Initiatives, NCSI organization.
Processing of background screenings will take a minimum of 1 week or more to received results.
USA Taekwondo is NOT able to influence the background screening process in any way.
The expense of the background screening is the responsibility of each individual.

STEP 3: Take the Center for SafeSport Training Course

USATKD Members include athletes, coaches, referees, instructors, and club owners.

TO REGISTER AND COMPLETE THE CENTER FOR SAFESPORT TRAINING - CORE TRAINING COURSE:
1. Log into your USA Taekwondo Coach profile via Sport:80.
2. When looking at your USATKD Coach profile HOME Page, Click VIEW PROFILE.
3. In the LEFT navigation, click on the Center for SafeSport Training link.
4. In the top RIGHT, Click the +Access Training and follow the prompts select the SafeSport - Core Training Course.
STEP 4: COMPLETE THE USATKD COACH'S COURSES (KYORUGI AND/OR POOMSAE)
All USATKD Coach Courses are located on the USA Taekwondo University website.
Coaches will need to take the course for the discipline in which they will coach.
Click the picture below to access the Coach course you will need to complete.
STEP 5: HOW TO REGISTER FOR AN EVENT
Click here to log in to your USA Taekwondo Membership Profile.
Once you are logged into your USA Taekwondo profile, use the left navigation to select the EVENT link (to register for events) or the DEVELOPMENT link (to register for camps).
After clicking the EVENTS OR DEVELOPMENT link, the center of the page will populate with events and/or camps that you are eligible to register for.
Follow the balance of the on-screen prompts to continue with registration for an event or camp.
